Crime walk tonight by Shannon Sullivan

CrimeWe have an important crime walk tonight starting at 7pm in the Carrollton Ridge neighborhood. This is a new neighborhood for us so its very important we have a strong turnout to provide them support. In addition, this community is also in part of the Southwest police district and several of their officers along with Southern's officers will join us. A large group of walkers tonight is very important to our COP program so if you haven't walked before tonight is a great time to start. We will meet at the Samuel Morse Recreation center at the corner of S. Pulaski St. and Ashton St.

Other walks this week include this Wednesday at 7pm in the Federal Hill/Riverside/South Baltimore area. We will begin at the corner of Fort Ave. & Charles. St. This walk is being sponsored by The Olde Malt Shop (Earl's) on Fort Ave. who has generously agreed to give each COP participant 50 cents off any purchase. So help deter crime and support a small business all in one night!

We also have a walk at 7pm on Sunday in the Ridgely's Delight neighborhood. This is a really nice walk so come out and enjoy a Sunday evening. We will start in front of 618 Warner Street.

Citizens on Patrol goes across the pond by Shannon Sullivan

CrimeFirst some important news. Jack Baker and I have been invited to England to help establish a Citizens on Patrol program based on the Southern District model. Part of our presentation while there will be video of our walks. So it is very important that we get a strong turnout to show our friends in the UK how committed Baltimore residents are to helping each other and deterring crimes of opportunity.

So if you haven't been on a walk before now is the time to join. If you are a regular thanks for making this volunteer program such a success. Your dedication to Citizens on Patrol has made this trip possible.

This week we will walk the neighborhoods of Hollins Roundhouse and Union Square on Friday, June 10th at 7pm. Please come out to support these neighborhoods as many of their residents are active in walking with us in other parts of the Southern District. The walk will begin at the Elder Care parking lot 1001 W. Pratt.

Next Rag Meeting 5-23-05 7:00 PM Corner of Belt and Randall by Jeff

General NewsThe agenda for the May 23rd meeting is as follows:

1. Introduction and updates – Jeff Ratnow

2. Update on the Key Highway Planning Process – City Planning Department

Please note that we were not made aware that the City was going to be attending this
month’s meeting until after the printing of the newsletter. Please distribute this
email to any other RAG members who may be interested in this. The City has decided
to go back to the community for more input and will be outlining to us, their
outreach program. The contents of the April plan presentation will not be discussed
with planning at this meeting as the RAG survey gave planning the picture of our
stance on their plan.

3. Committee Updates:

Development – Ann Fiocco

Crime – Shannon Sullivan

FORP – Mary Braman

4. Nominations for next year’s officers.

The police department may or may not be able to attend to speak about the new wave
of activity stirring in our neighborhoods. We hope they can, but there is a crime
walk scheduled the same night as our meeting and that will take precedent.

I hope to see each and every one of you at the meeting. Elections are a big deal and
really do affect what happens in the neighborhood.

NOTES FROM THE APRIL MEETING

General NewsBonnie Crockett, representing Federal Hill Main Street, spoke at our meeting about the upcoming Cross Street Festivals. There are three festivals per year and at the time of this printing, the first has happened and was a great success. Bonnie is looking for volunteers to work the festivals as they are always in need of helpers. It is great way to enjoy the festival and meet new people. You can volunteer by emailing volunteers@historicfederalhill.org. Bonnie also stated that, in an effort to protect our four legged friends from heat and noise, dogs will no longer be allowed at the festivals. Better to leave them in the cool shade of your home.
Neighbors of the Friendship Inn have expressed concerns about the crowds that gather on the corner at night and the frequent fights that have been occurring. This corner of Belt and Barney Streets has been brought to the Association’s attention on several occasions over the last few years. There are “No Loitering” signs clearly posted outside of this bar and the Association encourages the neighbors to contact the police whenever these crowds gather. It is always helpful to continue to keep this corner on the police department’s radar. It also sends a signal to the crowd that they are not welcome on that corner at night.
The Whetstone Point Veterinary Clinic has been purchased by Veterinarian Jill Shook. For those of you who use that clinic, you may know that she has been a Vet there for some time. She will be changing the name and installing new equipment for the good of her clients. She will continue to care for her existing “patients” and welcomes any new pets to her clinic
