Baltimore Riverside Neighborhood Association

Friends of Riverside Park

Friends of Riverside Park (FORP) is a volunteer organization committed to the upkeep and beautification of the Leone Riverside Park located in the community of Riverside, adjacent to Federal Hill and Locust Point in Baltimore City.

FORP, a subcommittee of Riverside Neighborhood Association (RNA), became an organized group, in January of 2003. We started working in the park with the Department of Recreation and Parks on two significant projects: planning the design and installation of a new playground and planning for installation of permanent garbage cans throughout the park. We have since expanded our activities to include, regular clean-up days, special maintenance projects, concerts, flea markets and other celebrations.

The key to the park's continued success is the work of committed volunteers: our friends and neighbors who spend time trimming bushes, picking-up trash, and organizing fundraisers. FORP volunteers are instrumental in keeping Riverside Park a city treasure.

FORP also has there own website at http://www.forp.info/

Upcoming events

Friends of Riverside ParkHello, everyone. Just a note to let you know what's happening in September.

9/2 - Clean-Up. It's been a long hot summer, more people in the park and too much trash. We'll have a big clean-up day Saturday, September 2. If you're in town, come by between 8:00 and noon. Many hands make light work - we really need you!

9/9 - Rally in the Alley. Come out for free hotdogs and beer and a chance to meet and talk with our local representatives George Della, Peter Hammen, Carolyn Krysiak, and Brian McHale. Saturday, September 9, 1:00 to 3:00 in the alley next to St. Mary star of the Sea church.

9/10 - The last concert of the summer. Don't miss this last musical event. Sunday, September 10, in the park, 6:00 'til dark (notice the earlier start, as the days are now shorter). Music by The Big Red Ts.

9/19 - FORP Meetings Resume. We will start meeting again, on the third Tuesdays of the month, to plan for next year's activities. Join us at Captain Larry's (Tuesdays are non-smoking nights, so bring the kids!), 7:00.

Hope to see you at all events.

FORP Meeting & a Neighborhood Warning

Friends of Riverside ParkHi, Everyone.

Just a reminder that the May FORP meeting is next Tuesday, 5/16, 7:00.

We will discuss the summer concerts. If you're interested in helping with planning, advertising, or sponsorship, please contact Mary at braman@ncqa.org

Also, I got this note from a RAG neighbor; it's worth passing on:

"Two times, in our neighborhood, I've been approached by a fairly-well dressed white male, mid 30's, 5'11'', with sandy brown hair. He says he locked himself out of his house and his buddy in Dundalk has a key; can
he use my cell or house phone. When I said no, he asked for a ride to Dundalk or for money. My first encounter was outside my house around 10:30 pm. He had walked past me, then turned around and came up behind
me. The second time, he came to my church and was wandering around inside. I don't know if the guy is dangerous but he stands very close when speaking and gives no personal space."

He may not be dangerous, but be aware; now that spring is here, there are a lot more people walking around the neighborhood.

FORP Montly Clean-Up

Friends of Riverside ParkJust a reminder that Saturday is clean-up day. I know there are a million other things we'd all rather be doing, so if you can donate just an hour or two it would really help.

We'll concentrate on trimming the shrubs at the Riverside entrance and around the red house. (Of course, there's always trash pick-up, which can be done anytime!)

I'll be at the gazebo at 8:00 and leaving at 10:00. Hope you to see you there.

March Cleanup

Friends of Riverside ParkSaturday is the fist one in March, so it's clean-up day. Because it's
cold and the ground is frozen, this month, we'll just pick up trash. For
trash bags, come to the red brick building between 8:00 and 9:00.

Saturday Clean-Up @ Riverside Park

Friends of Riverside ParkHello, everyone.

Don't forget, Saturday is a clean-up day. We're going to trim some trees and rip out the shrubs at the Covington/Heath entrance in preparation
for planting a new garden in the spring. I've ordered a dumpster for all the debris, so bring your gloves and lots of energy. We'll be there from 8:00 to noon.

PS. We can go to Salem's Winter Wonderland for a great lunch after all the work is finished!

Riverside Clean UP

Friends of Riverside ParkIt’s Riverside clean-up day on Saturday. If you can spare some time, come help with some park activities:

3 strong guys needed to lift the concrete footers from the old sign into the dumpster across the street.
2 strong guys needed to help pour concrete for the new sign.
4 patient people needed to stain the new picnic tables in the playground.
1 bored person to reattach some of the dog-bag-boxes.
Anyone who’s interested needed to trim some shrubs.

I’ll be there from 8:00 until 11:00. Give an hour, two, or 3 minutes. Hope to see you then.
